About the Product Concept
TeacherPrints is a personal instructional coaching app that visualizes classroom talk - in any language - and guides teachers interactively through the professional reflection they need to achieve their lesson delivery goals.
Most of us can think back to a teacher whose influence on our lives resonates, even decades later. These memories are fundamentally about a relationship -- we remember how the teacher made us feel. But while great teachers are deeply relational, their daily work is also very solitary. Once they've left their training programs, teachers rarely if ever have the privilege of getting feedback from fellow professionals.
This solitude makes it very difficult for teachers to reflect on their practice -- but reflection is the foundation of learning. How, then, can teachers improve? TeacherPrints removes this barrier. By holding up a mirror to teachers' practice, providing quantitative feedback about the verbal communication in their classroom, and offering structured feedback to facilitate teachers' reflection, TeacherPrints supports teachers' long, iterative journey toward teaching mastery.
The TeacherPrints Mission
TeacherPrints empowers teachers around the world
to envision teaching excellence through
accessible and affordable instructional coaching -
available anytime, anywhere.
TeacherPrints is a personal instructional coaching app that visualizes classroom talk in any language and guides teachers interactively through the professional reflection they need to take their next lesson to the next level.
Users begin by uploading an audio recording of their classroom teaching to our website. Our dual-layered, Pytorch-based, deep learning model classifies the voices into Teacher and Student categories. Through a combination of Python for analysis and d3.js for visualization, TeacherPrints isolates six educationally important features of spoken lesson delivery and presents them back to the users in easy-to-understand visualizations accompanied by interactive coaching text.
Bringing it all together is the TeacherPrints Dashboard. This printable display includes every TeacherPrints module on a single page, making the output easy to compare across lessons and the results convenient to share with colleagues.
The potential market and impact for TeacherPrints is huge. Of the 40 million primary school teachers worldwide, nearly half already carry the hardware they need to use TeacherPrints with them every day. Given a global average class size of 24 students, those millions of smartphone-enabled teachers could use our application to help improve the educational experience for almost half a billion young people around the globe, many of whom live in low income and rural areas.
